Basic service, or complete race prep. We can offer a basic high quality bearing, inspection, and reassembly package, or build you a full race level build for the longest lasting, most reliable transmissions or differentials.
UTV Transmission and Gearbox Services
Most UTV gearbox and differential failures are of no fault of the driver or type of use. These complex components are mass produced with poor quality materials and bearings that eventually lead to failures either by hard use, or just a matter of miles put on them.
UTVGears.com offers a wide range of services to choose from based on budget and type of use. Let us help reduce the chance of a transmission or differential failure whether out on a long distance trail ride, ripping the sand dunes, or racing the most legendary and difficult off-road races around the world.
Give us a call or send an e-mail and we'll be happy to send you a detailed quote for your preferred service.
Stage 1
Preventing the most common bearing failures before it happens. This low cost option is best for those that want a cost effective way to prevent transmission failure.
- Complete Magnetic Particle Inspection of all gears and shafts
- Complete visual inspection of all components
- Install high quality bearings
- New seals, o-rings, and gaskets
Stage 2
The next step in reliability and longevity for the highly stressed bearings involves measuring the endfloat, or shaft movement between the bearings and housings, then adding a precise amount of shim to eliminate any shaft movement. This process helps extend the life of the bearings by reducing the amount of shock loading from shafts being forced into them over rough terrain.
- Complete Magnetic Particle Inspection of all gears and shafts
- Complete visual inspection of all components
- Install high quality bearings
- Measure shaft endfloat and install shims for bearing preload
- New seals, o-rings, and gaskets
Stage 3
Full Race Prep! This is the ultimate in reliability and longevity for racers that need to get to the finish line, or for those that simply want the most peace of mind knowing they can push their toy as hard as they want with as low of a chance of failure as possible.
This services includes installing high quality bearings, measuring shaft endfloat and installing shims to preload bearings, then hand deburring and shotpeening critically loaded gears to reduce the chance of cracks and gear failure.
Deburring is the process of grinding the sharp corners of the gears to a soft, rounded edge to prevent a crack from wrapping around the corner and breaking through the base of the gear, eventually breaking the gear tooth.
Shotpeen is the process of blasting the gear surface with hardened steel shot at high pressure to "peen" the surface and destress the gear tooth. As gears are subjected to various processes of hot and cold treatments, which leaves the surfaces in tension. Shotpeening helps to destress the surface by compressing the surface of the gear and relieving the surface tension, which drastically increases surface wear life and prevents cracking.
All Stage 3 services involve:
- Complete Magnetic Particle Inspection of all gears and shafts
- Complete visual inspection of all components
- Install high quality bearings
- Measure shaft endplay and install shims to eliminate shaft movement
- Debur and Shotpeen factory gears
- New seals, o-rings, and gaskets
